WHY EMERGE AMAZÔNIA?

Brazil has the greatest biodiversity on the planet and much of it is concentrated in the Amazon. The potential for generating development from this wealth is still unexplored and the great challenges of climate change and deforestation threaten this ecosystem and the balance of the world.

In order to contribute to this challenge, we believe that from science, technology and innovation it will be possible to promote economic development from Amazonian inputs, generating wealth, solving major problems for society and industries, generating new products and processes and, above all, conserving the forest.

EMERGE AMAZÔNIA PILLARS

Emerge Amazônia has the objective of leveraging scientific-based technologies that use Amazonian inputs to the market. Our thesis is based on three main premises that determine our objectives, focuses and the profile of the teams we are seeking to work together.

We look for teams from laboratories, universities and startups that are developing a science-based innovation at any maturity and want to connect with the market.

Science-based technologies must sustainably use inputs from Amazonian biodiversity, showing that the forest can be more valuable standing than devastated.

We believe that the best way to understand the market and develop a high-potential solution is to learn from large companies. Therefore, the teams must be open to interacting with the largest companies in the sector.

We seek technologies that use inputs from Amazonian biodiversity in a sustainable way to develop a solution addressed to the challenges listed in the areas of health, food and cosmetics. Technologies can be at any level of development maturity, needing only to present a proof-of-concept of basic principle at the laboratory level.

EVALUATION OF MAPPED TECHNOLOGIES

We will evaluate the mapped technologies to better understand the information provided, as well as the proposed solution and sector addressed. Interviews may be carried out with the teams to clarify doubts, always safeguarding intellectual property. A complete material will then be prepared with the necessary information to make the connection with the market.

2.1

SELECTION OF TECHNOLOGIES

From the technologies mapped in Phase 1, we will evaluate which ones have greater adherence to the challenges, potential results and perspective of structuring and/or evolution of a startup. The process will be carried out in stages, with an evaluation of the material made available, interviews and discussions with experts from Emerge, partner companies and the council. It will be communicated to the selected teams, as well as a feedback sent for those not selected to understand the points that can lead to improvement. All teams that indicate an intention to found a startup will have access to the 50% discount on the Emerge Innovation for Scientists course.

STRUCTURING THE BUSINESS CASES

DO YOU HAVE A TECHNOLOGY THAT USES AMAZONIAN INPUTS?

We seek science-based technologies that use Amazonian biodiversity in a sustainable way that address different themes in three important sectors.

HEALTH

Technologies, Extracts and/or Molecules developed from natural species (plants, microorganisms and sponges) for medicinal use, especially for the therapeutic areas of gastroenterology, immunology, cardiometabolic, neuroscience and infectious diseases, such as antibiotics , antivirals and antiparasitic.

Technologies, Extracts and/or Molecules developed from natural species (plants, microorganisms and sponges) for medicinal use that already have established productive arrangements in other segments, but with potential to expand their applications in the area of health.

Microorganism species that have positive physiological effects for the growth, resistance and survival of plants, or species of plants and/or microorganisms that are used by animals in the forest for medicinal use.

Technologies, Extracts or Molecules developed from species that are used as food and present benefits for human health, being health promoters and with a potential prebiotic effect.

Inputs that provide better animal nutrition, such as natural ingredients, antioxidants and longer shelf life. Technologies that provide increased health and life span of animals, such as combating parasites, increasing immunity and quality of life.

New molecules, processes or ingredients that can add value to animal production by-products, especially poultry and swine. Use of animal production residues to generate new products in various fields of application for animal feed, plant nutrition or use with active pharmaceutical ingredients.

Plants, fungi and microorganisms that may be rich in proteins, fats or fibers. Natural ingredients for the preservation of food, condiments, inputs and colorings. Natural ingredients that can reduce or replace sodium and fat in foods.

New compounds that can generate sustainable and/or intelligent packaging. Inputs that can innovate in healing processes or new methods of food preparation. Inputs that can contribute to the optimization of thin and emulsified masses.

Inputs that provide better animal nutrition, such as natural ingredients, antioxidants and longer shelf life. Technologies that provide increased health and life span of animals, such as combating parasites, increasing immunity and quality of life.

Cosmetics

Processes for obtaining substances from inputs from Amazonian biodiversity, already used or not in the market, that present some degree of innovation, generating a greater yield. These processes must be as sustainable as the current ones or, preferably, less aggressive to the ecosystem.

Sustainable techniques, processes and technologies that allow the development of a productive cultivation system for natural ingredients. These processes must have a low socio-environmental impact and may originate in traditional knowledge from communities in the Amazon ecosystem.

New applications of inputs, ingredients or substances already used for other purposes, which present functional characteristics that bring benefits to the consumer. These applications must address some still unsolved problem or improve performance from some perspective.

New ingredients from the Amazonian biodiversity that have functional properties. These ingredients must present a good level of characterization about their origin and breadth of analysis, as well as development and extraction by sustainable processes.

Yes! Even if it does not fit exactly into one of the themes listed, your technology is eligible to participate in the evaluation process and potentially selected for the program.

Yes! Both registration and participation in the project are completely free for participants. At first, all interactions will be virtual. If physical presence is required, the action will be discussed later with the teams and partner companies of the Project.

It is not mandatory to have or constitute a company to enroll in Emerge Amazônia. Scientists, universities and research groups can also submit their technologies.

The technologies that are selected for step 2.3 will receive an investment of 150 to 200 thousand reais, through equity participation that will be defined between the team and Emerge. All other technologies that register and participate in the development of the Business Case do not provide for any assignment of intellectual property, nor does it provide for participation or equity in the company.

There is no obligation for Emerge to invest in your technology/company. The program aims to promote interaction between scientists and entrepreneurs with partner companies to structure a value proposition that demonstrates the potential of their technology. At the end of step 2.2, Emerge will analyze the monitoring, evolution and delivery for the selection of up to 3 teams to carry out the investment.
